This 19 page file contains 36 journal writing prompts that can be used in a variety of ways, but here's how my third grade team uses ours...
(Thanks to an idea from Pinterest) We create class journals using 6-7 spiral note books. Each spiral has one of the journal prompts taped to the front cover. The spirals are then kept at a writing center or an area in the classroom that is shared by students. During writing work station (or Work on Writing for all you Daily 5 fans out there!) students have time to choose a spiral and write a response in it. When time permits (or they complete their response) students can read other responses. Even better, in our grade level, each classroom has spirals with different journal prompts on them. After a month of the spirals being in our classroom, we rotate them to a new classroom and students can see what their friends in other classes have written and have the opportunity to respond to brand new prompts!
And the most important point I'd like to make is....the few graphics I used in this product were created by Laura Strickland at www.mycutegraphics.com. She encourages teachers to use her graphics in their products on teacherspayteachers as long as you give recognition. She is my favorite person I don't know at the moment, so go check out her work!!!
Last, if you like my work please rate it and check out my other products. (If you have kids who need to develop some basic sentence structure so that their journal writing is awesome, check out my Main Sentence Trunks with Action Expanders product!)
