A comprehensive PowerPoint of 150 days of engaging, ready-to-use journal writing topics!
I have had my students journal writing for years. Once you teach students the expectations, they will enjoy starting language arts class this way. I have students that have kept their journals well after the 7th grade! (Little did they know that they were practicing a wide variety of higher-level thinking skills.)
Benefits of journal writing:
-- an effective way to start to your daily opening routines -- gets students settled and ready to learn by immediately engaging them in some higher level thinking. (One bonus -- Absent students can easily just complete an entry independently -- a lot easier than drills and warm ups.)
-- allows students daily practice in free writing
-- entries can later be used as a springboard for larger writing pieces
-- since journal writing can be personal, it allows you to really get to know your students individually (This really has been a big benefit!)
-- a lot of fun to hear the great responses students come up with!
Why these journal topics are so great:
-- a wide range of writing topics helps maintain middle school student interest
-- covers all types of Common Core writing -- argumentative, informative, & narrative. Also includes creative writing.
-- cross-curricular connection responses to art and music
-- visually appealing and engaging (Looks better than the thumbnails...couldn't download my own because they were too large *sigh*)
-- ready to use! The date on each slides automatically updates on the day of use. Also can easily be reordered and edited easily to suit students' specific needs if desired.
You can buy all 150 here, or if you'd prefer, they are also available in 30 day groups if you just want to try them out.
