This activity allows students to choose from several different activities to extend their knowledge and creatively demonstrate what they have learned. I use this as an ongoing activity that my "reporters" work on while my "editors" work on peer reviews of articles and posting finalized articles to post to online blogs. This could also be used a mini-research projects for students to work throughout the year (especially close to holidays when students have mentally checked-out!).
-choice board with directions and mini-rubric
-song analysis worksheet (what students complete if they work on the song analysis activity)
-news article worksheet (what students complete if they work on the new article activity)
-political cartoon worksheet what students complete if they work on the song analysis activity)
*one of the activities is for Tween Tribune, a website that includes engaging articles with a few comprehension questions - it's free to use and easy to set up classes (I keep a list with all user names and passwords available for reference) and allows them to practice ELA skills as well as analyze how articles are formatted.
