Product Description
This is a 3-day mini unit on interviewing, used at the beginning of my journalism course. It teaches the following skills and terms:
1. Direct quotes versus paraphrasing, and the importance of each. This lesson uses a sample interview shown via Teacher Tube (link included in lesson plan, or teacher can modify with any interview.) In this lesson, students practice taking notes on what they hear.
2. Open ended versus close ended questions. Students will learn the difference between these types of questions, and the importance of using open ended questions when conducting an interview.
3. Knowing who to interview in order to cover all bases.

These lessons follow the workshop model (Learning intention, do now, mini lesson, paired or independent practice, and a wrap.) The plans include what I do in my class in terms of differentiation, and the Common Core Standards addressed in the lesson. The mini lesson teaches the skill, and there is ample time for the students to practice.
