Product Description
In this unit plan, teachers in a Journalism class educate their students on the op-ed section of a newspaper. This can also be used in a general English Language Arts class or in a Social Studies class that has a unit focusing on the effects of opinion writing on society. This unit is based on 90-minute block scheduling, but each lesson can be split across multiple days if necessary.

In this unit, students will be able to:
-Identify the successful parts of an op-ed article
-Identify ethos, pathos, and logos
-Evaluate real ads for ethos, pathos, and logos and present the information to the class
-Write their own op-ed articles
-Evaluate the parts of a political cartoon that make it successfully convey a message
-Analyze Letters to the Editor for purpose
-Write their own Letter to the Editor for a local paper
