15 excerpts from the book Journey by Patricia MacLachlan. Each excerpt comes with or without a border. With each excerpt, I have written teaching points and possible thinking stems to suggest for students. Use these with whole group or during small group instruction.
A "Reading is Thinking" chart is included.
Other possible uses for excerpts: glue excerpts to the center of bulletin board paper and have the students write their thoughts about the excerpt. Great for workstations or Gallery Walk. Or use as you read and students must comment on excerpt using sticky note as their ticket out.
Excerpts are GREAT for working with students who need help with fluency, so you could use these excerpts in small group.
Even if you’re not reading the novel, use these excerpts to practice identifying and discussing possible teaching points that are written in plans.
