with these two handy options for student take home lists for all 30 Lessons! Both options have the spelling words for the week and a vocabulary definition matching section. An answer key is, of course, included. Then to soothe your muscles from that heavy manual, I have typed up the 30 spelling sentences for the weekly spelling tests so you can put down that manual for a few minutes while giving the test!
The first option for spelling allows a teacher to test all 30 words (or as many as you want) on the test each week. The second option indicates using the standard 20 Basic words for the test, but has an incentive of using the Review and Challenge words as “surprise” bonus words. I pick two words each week. This makes it a little more fun for students who struggle with spelling as they can miss a couple from the Basic list and still get a 100% if they know the 1-2 bonus words. It is also challenging for students who ace spelling each week as they like the fun of the possibility of getting a 102% on their weekly spelling tests! These 3rd grade spelling words using the same sounds with different spellings is so hard at times. This is how I tried to give both types of students an advantage!
Included on the bottom of the spelling list is a matching section for the vocabulary. Previously, I would have the vocabulary and the definitions together for students to study. However, the weekly reading test results made it obvious that many students didn’t looked at their vocabulary again after we discussed them in class. So, I decided to engage my students by having them “work” and “think” for those definitions! This can also be a 10-point vocabulary grade.
Vocabulary Answer Key: Who doesn’t want this?
JUST for ME and YOU: Those manuals are heavy and awkward for this old gal! I typed up all of the spelling sentences for giving the spelling tests and keep them in sleeves in a binder. I add the list for the week to my Friday clipboard instead of carrying that darn manual around the room while giving the spelling test! I also keep a copy of one of the spelling options in the back of the sleeve, so I can quickly flip it over and surprise my students with the two bonus words.
I have used the Journeys 2014 Edition

If you happen to use a different version, you will be able to compare to see if the alignment is similar enough to purchase this Resource. I hope so as this convenient supplement is nice to Print
