Students love these interactive pages! Don't worry if you do not use Interactive Notebooks in your classroom. The interactive pages in this lesson can be glued onto notebook paper or construction paper. You can even staple a "notebook" of lined paper for them to use with their Journeys lessons! They'll love this new way of demonstrating their learning.

Reading Literature & Informational Text supplements:
o Text and Graphic Features - Students record text and graphic features as they read. They note the page number and the purpose for the feature.
o Analyze Evaluate - Students evaluate their own understanding of the text by keeping track of the tricky words they read. They note the word, the page number, the possible meaning, and then the dictionary definition.
o Domain-Specific Vocabulary - Students use the dictionary to define 5 domain-specific vocabulary words and then write the words into sentences that show they understand the meaning of the words.
o The Fruit Bowl Project Text Questions - Students answer text-dependent questions. They need access to the text in order to provide evidence for their thinking.
o Portraying Portraits Text Questions - Students support drawn conclusions with supporting details..
o Essential Question - Students journal write, answering the essential question, "How can text and graphics retell a story?"
o Vocabulary Word Wall Words - Word Wall Words are provided for teachers wanting to hang the selection vocabulary on their focus wall.
o Dictionary Definitions and Sentence Writing - Students complete the table, using the glossary to define each vocabulary word. Then, they write sentences using the vocabulary words, showing they understand each word's meaning.
o Vocabulary: Using Context Clues - Students use context clues to complete each sentence with the correct vocabulary word.
o Spelling List - 2 to a page, to be printed and cut apart
o Spelling Practice: 3 Times Each - Students write the spelling words three times each.
o Spelling Practice: Vowel Sound Sort - Students write the spelling words into the correct columns according to vowel sound.
o Spelling Practice: Vowels and Consonants - Students write their spelling words using two colors, alternating colors for vowels and consonants.
o Grammar: Subject and Predicates - Students read the sentences, underlining the subjects and circling the predicates. Students color the stacks of books according to whether the subjects and predicates are simple or compound.
