Promote close reading and selection discussion with the use of these story specific conversation cards. Created in a simple word document, each set of at least six cards, are designed to ignite discussion of the text and guide students in preparing for the lesson assessment. Throughout the various units, questions and topics on the cards range from simple knowledge base to more complex and critical thinking questions or instructions. When used in my classroom, I simply cut the cards apart and distribute them to small groups of 3-4 children. After the small groups discuss their card, the whole class comes together in a large circle and students lead a grand conversation using the cards and what they discussed in their small group. This is a great way to get students working at various levels to collaborate and participate as active readers. Conversation Cards may be purchased as individual units (5 stories) or as a bundle of all six units (30 stories) in my store.
This Unit 1 set includes cards for the following stories:
"Henry and Mudge"
"Diary of a Spider"
