I bet you're hearing from administrators....."NO MORE WORKSHEETS OR RUN-OFFS! WE EXPECT TO SEE STUDENT GENERATED WORK!"
If you are implementing the Journeys Reading Series, these "kid friendly" illustrations were designed as a model for TEACHERS to use during whole group instruction, mini-lessons or as "posters" in literacy workstations. My students write and illustrate these thinking maps in their Reading spiral notebooks, as we recall the story and I demonstrate each drawing, step by step. Writing the word AND illustrating an original picture to match, helps those early readers be successful!
These notebooks are used as a personal “word wall” resource during daily writing, as well!
This pack includes a CIRCLE MAP of zoo animals Gus might see (great to use for a writing lesson) and a BUBBLE MAP of the parts of the story that make it a FANTASY (first mini-lesson on this genre).
All items align with the Common Core Standards and the target/focus skills taught in the basal for this story.
