• Sentence Writing
allows students to demonstrate comprehension of the words and appropriate syntax.
• Letter Box Puzzles
aid students in word identification by shape.
• Rainbow Writing
engages students as they practice writing the words.

This Resource is For:
• First Grade Teachers Using the Journeys Reading Program
who want to provide students with opportunities to not only master the ability to READ sight words but also write/spell them correctly. This resource includes ALL
of the sight words from the program.
• While these pages complement Journeys Reading Program, it can be used with ANY program. View the preview to see what sight words are included.
Why I Love this Resource:
Many sight words don't follow the "rules" and can be difficult to spell for young children. You cannot sound out words like "the"! This resource helps kids be successful in learning the spellings of sight words!
I have been using sight words as spelling words for many years now. Many of these words cannot be encoded easily and must be memorized. I decided it was more important to have students study sight words instead of phonetically regular words. (I still assess students on their ability to encode "regular" words- but I don't have them study them).
Each of the activities in this pack provides structure and practice for reading and spelling high frequency sight words. The predictable
routine allows for students to work independently from early on in the year. The pages fit nicely into spelling OR sight word instruction and can be used in centers, as homework, or as independent classwork. Check out the preview to get a better look at what is included!
