There are a lot of papers that students take to and from school. These word ladders simplify the transport process by organizing each lesson's words on to a separate list that can be attached to a ring. This set accompanies the Houghton Mifflin Journeys series.
How do I use these cards?
I use these word ladders as a way for my students to practice their high frequency words at home. There are word ladders for lessons 1-19, 21-24, and 26-29. (Lessons 20, 25, and 30 are lessons where the high frequency words are reviewed, and there were too many for one word ladder.) These word ladders work for the 2014 and 2017 Journeys kindergarten editions.
I copy them onto cardstock, then laminate, and cut them out. I then punch holes in the corners so the students can keep them on a ring.
After introducing the words on Day 1, I hand out the word ladders, we read over the words, play a game with them, and then I have the students put them on their word ring. We continue to add to the ring as the year goes on so they have all of their high frequency words in one spot!
These ladders are also an easy way for parents to know which words to practice. I can easily let them know to practice the Lesson 7 words on the word ring, and the parents understand which words they are to practice with their children.
