The first page has a chart that reinforces the skills of identifying and understanding personification and metaphors in the story Riding Freedom. The student writes the exact quote from the story, the page number, identifies whether it is a metaphor or personification, and then explains what it means.
The second page is a chart where students list text evidence that shows the story is set in the past.
I have my students use these pages while they independently read the story. I find that it helps focus their reading and allows them to practice the new skills we have been learning in the story.
