This product contains 8 vocabulary maps that support 2nd grade students while reading The Penguin Chick, Journeys, Lesson 21.
This is a super opportunity for students to analyze the word and challenge themselves to think about the word in new ways. These maps also provide opportunity to differentiate during literacy centers.
Each of the 8 vocabulary words (steer, whistle, otherwise, webbed, slippery, finally, junior and waterproof) are placed on the maps. Students are asked to provide the number of syllables, an antonym, synonym, word meaning, a sentence and a picture to help illustrate the word.
Differentiation is a breeze with these vocabulary maps. The higher level readers can use thesauruses or be given an increased challenge on the sentence. For example; that group could be asked to add a contraction to each sentence or use the word in a simile etc.
I have partnered children to work on these maps as well as split words up among a group (2-4 words per student). It is a great opportunity to have lower level readers find the word in glossary using ABC order skills.
I hope your class flourishes and become Vocabulary Stars!
