This is a fabulous comprehension and writing activity! This bundle was designed to accompany the Houghton Mifflin Journey's language arts curriculum for first grade. The curriculum comes with retelling picture cards and this activity was designed to accompany those cards for depth of knowledge and fun!
The bundle includes:
-Build-a-sentences cards that retell the anchor text story, coinciding with the pictures. (For all 30 lessons)
Ideas for use:
My grade level and I are currently using this resource as a recurring reading center. There are 4 retelling sentences for each story. I have each numbered sentence in a separate ziplock bag labeled with that number. I put out the retelling cards with the ziplock bags and retelling sheet. I usually have my students work on the story from the previous week, but you could use the current week. So far our students are LOVING this activity!!
*This could also be a whole class activity near the end of the week to review the anchor text. It could be turned into a game, where each group has a bag and they race to figure out what their sentence says. Then, the class has to put the sentences in order.
The possibilities are endless ;)
*Disclaimer: the retelling cards have sentences on the back, and you will find that mine do not match up exactly on some of them. Due to the length of some of the sentences, I had to modify them to make sense for this activity. When I use the cards, I have them posted up in order (with only the front of the cards showing) for students to use as a reference.
