This Vocabulary Scaffold helps frontload the key vocabulary Journey's outlines in The Real Vikings, which is Unit 4, Lesson 16 of the Journey's curriculum. The words are listed in the order that they appear in the text. This is intended to be a teacher-guided activity. The teacher will have the students chorally repeat the vocabulary word, then call on a student to read the sentence. Students will then have an opportunity to make conjectures about the word's meaning based on the picture(s) and sentence that were provided. Following this brainstorm, the teacher will reveal the complete definition for students to complete in their vocabulary packets. Typically, my co-teacher and I go over the first five words the first day, and the second set of five words the next day. We then encourage students to refer to the packet when reading and completing text-based activities.

Note - the answer key is at the end of the document. Print this separately so students aren't given all of the answers before being led through the document with the teacher. :)
