Are you looking for an engaging, meaningful way to teach grammar skills? Mentor sentences are just what you need. A mentor sentence is a well-crafted sentence written by an author that can be used as an example of good writing for students. This pack contains one mentor sentence lesson for each of the stories in the Journeys second grade curriculum.
Mentor sentences are used as models to help students identify grammar, structure, and style in writing. The concept of mentor sentences comes from Jeff Anderson, also known as “The Write Guy”, who has a number of books on writing and grammar. You can check out his website at https://www.writeguy.net/.
This download includes:
• an explanation of what a mentor sentence is
• a description of how to implement mentor sentences in your classroom
• parts of speech chart
• samples of completed lessons
• 30 mentor sentences lessons (one for each story)
• possible answers sheet for each story
