The Common Core Standards and the Academic Shifts are at the forefront of Education. Math standards are requiring children to use a variety of strategies to solve problems and are requiring them to explain how they solved the problem through writing, pictures, graphs, and charts. Academic Shifts ask children to make as many connections as possible when they read, write, and do math. This resource is one way to meet all of those needs. Each page gives the children a math problem that is connected to a Journeys story. These can be done individually, with a partner, a small group, or a whole class. They can easily be used as part of the Daily 3 Math CAFÉ. Students are encouraged to determine and choose appropriate strategies for each problem. The stories connected in this unit are:
"Gloria Who Might Be My Best Friends"
"The Goat in the Rug"
"From Seed to Plant"
I have them for sale as individual units or you can save $1.25 by purchasing the entire six-unit bundle from my store for $6.25.
