This packet is designed to help your students practice all 220 first grade sight words. Students will dig deeper to understand each sight word to be able to use it correctly.
Last year, while teaching ESL and struggling students, I realized that context clues weren't sufficient for many of them. They struggled to use the sight word in its correct context. These sheets will give your students a thorough understanding of first grade sight words. Students will find and write the definition from the Journeys Vocabulary in Context Card or a dictionary. They will learn each sight word and then apply their new knowledge to use the Dolch sight word phrase in a sentence. This is a great way to check for understanding.
This resource uses phonics to break down sight words. Students will start to realize that there is a systematic relationship between letters and sounds even in irregular words. This understanding will improve their spelling and reading fluency.
