Have you ever wanted to assess your students on more than just their ability to memorize a spelling word? This assessment is the perfect way to ensure your students can write a sentence while spelling their words correctly in context! This is the best of both worlds! I have included an assessment with letter boxes for students to fill in for each word and an assessment with letter boxes and blank writing space for those more advanced students. There are three different differentiated test papers. This unit also includes an answer sheet for each lesson as well as directions for scoring and the total points possible for each assessment.
Also, if this is the first unit of my spelling assessments that you have downloaded I have included the letter that could be sent home to parents explaining a change in spelling procedures as well as an example test and answer sheet for parents.
The following common core standards are covered in each unit of spelling assessments.
I can recognize that words are combined to make a sentence.
I can recognize that the first word in a sentence is capitalized.
I can recognize that words are separated by spaces before and after them.
I can recognize that a sentence ends with a punctuation mark.
I can identify short and long vowel sounds in words.
I can recognize that blending letters create new sounds.
I can sound out words by blending letter sounds.
I can break words into beginning, middle, and ending sound segments
