Background for the Unit:
Exploration has paved the way for many improvements and changes that we see in society today and gives us ideas for the future. Use of the Parallel Curriculum will allow students an in-depth study of the reasons for exploration, the effects of exploration, and the countries and people involved in exploration. Students will function as practitioners by studying explorers of the New World as geographers, historians, and economists. Students will relate information learned about exploration to understand reasons for exploration, and debate ethical issues relating to exploration. The study will also allow students to reflect upon the information learned, how they are affected or influenced by the information, and the processes they used in their study.
