Use this activity in small-group time to review long and short vowels sounds, or with your whole class as a refresher on sorting words by phonics patterns. A follow-up page has students use long ō words to write a poem, using the words from the sort along with other words they know that fit this pattern.
Use this week's spelling words and vocabulary words for this lesson, or give students your own long ō words to sort. Our students love putting the activity chart in a plastic sleeve and using dry-erase markers to sort words by vowel sounds. They especially love the "trying to trick me" column!
