Pg. 3 High-Frequency Word Practice “and” – roll the dice to see what color to write the word “and” – dotted lines provided to trace and a line to practice writing the word without tracing, illustrate it, use it in a sentence by writing or dictating
Pg. 4 Tic-Tac-Mm’s! – play tic-tac-toe using capital and lowercase “M” instead of “x’s” and “O’s” – find a partner and have fun
Pg. 5-6 “M” Monster! – copy onto white construction paper or cardstock and attach it to a popsicle stick – if you want to collect these and keep them, laminate them before attaching to a stick – have the students find “Mm’s” in books or peek through the opening in the monster’s mouth to find things in the room that start with the /m/ sound
Pg. 7-8 MMMMM-Mustache Talker! – copy off onto white construction paper or cardstock, laminate them if you want to collect them and keep them, attach them to a skewer with the point cut off, students can take turns holding their mustache to their nose and giving an example of a /m/ word or they can listen for the teacher say words and hold them up to their nose when they hear a word that starts with the /m/ sound
Pg. 9-10 Let’s Illustrate Our Sentences! – a foldable book -finish the “like” sentences by writing what the dog likes, cat likes, and what you like – draw a picture to illustrate the sentences – practice using the word “like” and furthers the understanding of text and graphic features
Pg. 11-14 Nouns and Action Verbs! – copy pages A and B back to back, fold on the solid line and cut on the dotted lines, use the pictures to help you match the nouns to the action verbs – glue the action verbs under the correct flaps
Pg. 15-17 Action Verb Charades! – cut out these cards and place them in a basket – have the students choose a card and perform the action for their classmates – see if anyone can guess what action verb you are doing
Pg. 18-21 Mouse Craft and Phonics Practice – copy the patterns onto the appropriate colored paper, glue the pieces together to form a mouse, attach the pocket gluing only the bottom and sides to form an opening, cut out the squares with the pictures, put only the pictures that begin with the /m/ sound into the pocket on the mouse
Pg. 22-23 When I Grow Up I Want to Be … -a chance for you to share what you want to be when you grow up – tell why by telling what you like about it – write or dictate
Pg. 24-33 Pizza Party! – beginning sound match – a fun game that helps you practice matching your letter sounds by adding pizza slices to your plate
Pg. 34-42 Gather the Apples! – help the farmer harvest the apples from the tree by reading your High-Frequency Words – watch out for the apples with the worms in them
