Pg. 3 Roll and Write – High-Frequency Word practice – roll the dice to see how many times to write the words
Pg. 4-5 Color Your Words! – find your High-Frequency Words and color them with the matching colors
Pg. 6-7 My Idea! – use this page to put your ideas down for your writing – write the idea for your story in the lightbulb, write and/or draw the characters in your story – write and/or draw the setting – draw the events of your story
Pg. 8-11 Beginning Sounds! – copy page A and B back to back, fold on the solid line and cut on the dotted line – look at the pictures on page C – cut out and glue the pictures under either the /m/ flap or the /s/ flap
Pg. 12-15 S is for Spider! – Copy the patterns on the appropriate colored pages, cut out the body and legs, attach the legs and fold them twice as seen in the illustration – add the eyes, look at the circles with the pictures – only cut out the circles with the pictures that begin with the /s/ sound – glue the circles on the end of each spider leg
Pg. 16-19 Sequence of Events – copy pages A and B back to back, fold on the solid line and cut on the dotted lines, look at the pictures on page C – listen to the teacher read each sentence, cut out the boxes and put them in order by gluing them under the correct flaps
Pg. 20-23 My Action Verb … lights, camera, action! – write your action verb on the line, illustrate the action verb – attach your papers to construction paper, punch holes, add yarn, and hang in the hall
Pg. 24-32 Let’s Make a Kite! – add ribbons to your kite to win – cut out the kites and laminate - attach a piece of yarn to the end of each kite for a tail – place the ribbons upside down in a pile, take turns choosing a ribbon and reading the word – if you read it correctly, place it on your kite tail – if you read it incorrectly, place it back in the pile and lose your turn – some cards will have you identify the letters in each High-Frequency Word, some cards have you return a ribbon to the pile – whoever has the most ribbons on their kite tail at the end of the game wins
Pg. 33-37 Go Fly a Kite! – this game is played like Go Fish – match the words and the colors of the words
Pg. 38-39 Design a Kite – copy the pattern on to various colored construction paper – let students design their own kites – see example
