From Electric English...
This powerpoint is a small part of a bigger unit, but, of course, if you have something already created that you would like to pair it with, the slideshow will stand on its own. These slides provide a visual and succinct way to dialogue with students about the ideas they will encounter during your lesson, and how these lessons connect with their real day-to-day lives. These particular questions focus on concepts and ideas the students should reflect upon while considering the life of Joyce Carol Oates and her work. And, yes, they are certainly applicable to Common Core Standards, but more importantly, these questions are just great teaching practices! Use them for what is best for you:)
NOTE: There is a fresh, clean copy of this story posted in my store under Short Story: Analysis Project. It's free and a great story!! I have to tell you, however, that this story is quite disturbing on many levels. Just want to give you fair warning, in case, you are not familiar with it.... That being said, every time I have ever taught this story, the students have loved it, and it has always generated some incredible conversations about a teenager's life and the story's analysis.
