This project is designed to be a home project, however, it can be broken down into parts with the majority of it being done in class. It is up to you! I used it as a supplement project for enrichment during our measurement unit, and kids found it fantastic!
The project: students are to create a scale drawing of their bedroom, complete with measurements such as area and perimeter, for all furniture in the room. This reinforces the math practices of precise measurement and using mathematical tools. Additionally, it allows kids the opportunity to be creative in their work (they need to return a full color map) and strikes up conversation with family at home! This project has been used for more than 4 years with positive feedback every time from both students and parents!
Project plans include: overview, materials list, step-by-step directions, graph paper, and rubric
