Judaism: Introducing Judaism
This resource includes:
-- a pre-reading survey to assess how much students already know about Judaism and its history: this would be a great group/class activity but could be done individually as well. It could also be completed as a webquest but one advantage to doing it as a survey (without other sources to consult) is that students can go back later and fill in the correct answers once they have read the texts (a couple of the questions cannot be answered by reading the passages, so students could research the answers). Space has been provided on the right side of the page for jotting down their ideas before they fill in their final answers with information from their research.
-- a post-reading vocabulary page with eight words, four from the first passage and four from the second for students to define;
-- two reading passages covering the historical background of Judaism. The texts are a great way to introduce students to the wider topic of this important world religion;
-- a page of questions (assessing comprehension as well as allowing students to express opinions while citing evidence) is included;
-- a full answer key is provided for all objective work.
