Singing Competitions and Variety Shows
- This 4-page activity mimics a singing competition. Students to pick a "judge personality", then rate singers on five categories that are explained within, some musical and some non-musical. After students pick, a "trial run" of the judging activity is done by you singing "The Star Spangled Banner". Then, you may choose to show videos of singers or pick students to come up and sing! There are a total of 6 blank judging templates for students to fill in after the practice run. There is a journal at the end for students to reflect on the activity.
- Students rate two singers on a 1-10 scale on five categories, then tally their score and sees who wins. You may choose recordings or two different singers or use your own students.
- Students pick their preference of the same song being sung by two different singers (original and cover), then give a short explanation of why they preferred one version over the other. You will need four songs, each with an original version and cover.
