To review important words and names associated with the judicial branch of government.
1 class period
Students begin this lesson by reviewing the definitions of 31 terms related to the judicial branch of government on pages 66A-66B. As they do so, have the kids underline or highlight words that are particularly important to the meaning of each term. They can underline or highlight individual words or groups of words, but should not use more than half the definition.
Afterwards, class members are given a copy of page 66C. This page includes a contest/game form with 20 boxes, each of which contains a clue describing one of the judicial branch key terms on the preceding pages. Students will use the clues to help them identify the term being described. Correct answers are worth either 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 points. A perfect score is 100.
You can decide whether to make this activity an assignment for individuals or pairs of students, a contest, or a team game.
Teacher Instructions and answer key included, along with a 20-question follow up quiz to measure student progress. The quiz can also be given as a homework assignment.
