Product Description
What is it?

This Julius Caesar Introduction with Handout is a 10-slide, time-saving tool that prepares students for reading.

Why is it needed?

We all know that we need to take the time to set up students for success in reading by previewing unfamiliar literary elements and background information, particularly when the text was written centuries ago! However, we don’t always have time to prepare a great lesson. Sometimes, we fall into the trap of cracking open the text without any preliminary discussion. This Julius Caesar Introduction presentation takes care of that need.

How is it used?

This presentation should be shown prior to beginning The Julius Caesar in class. Depending on how you use it, it could take anywhere from half a class period to a full class period. It will take a full class period if you choose to use the last few questions on the handout as the basis for class discussion or have the students write extended responses.

What is included?

Included in your download are 10 editable PowerPoint slides. Each slide has suggested discussion questions written in the notes section underneath. If you don’t like the background or font size, you have the ability to change it. You can also add or take out any information that you wish.

Students will be introduced to the details of Caesar’s rise to power as well as to the ideas of dramatic irony, prose, and blank verse. They will learn about “crossing the Rubicon” and the “Ides of March.”

A 14-question worksheet is also included. The Microsoft Word handout is editable, and it is intended to help students stay focused on your presentation and be active listeners. The last few questions on the Julius Caesar handout are analysis questions that the students can complete independently or as part of a larger classroom discussion.
