With this handout and graphic organizer, students learn about all three persuasive/rhetorical appeals and how/why they appear in the play. Students use the handout as a guide throughout the play; they complete the graphic organizer to demonstrate their learning and analyze their findings.
This is a great activity to help prepare students for 11th grade, either college prep or AP. As an AP Language teacher, I wanted to create something for my sophomores to help them understand the appeals and analyze rhetoric, and this play is a perfect opportunity to achieve that goal.
Note: I've had great success allowing students to work collaboratively in groups of 3 the first time they complete the activity. As students feel more comfortable, they can complete all three on their own with confidence and accuracy.
