These worksheets help students go further with five selected speeches from "Julius Caesar". Speeches include:
Cassius's speech to Brutus (Act I, scene 2)
Brutus's soliloquy annotation (Act II, scene 1)
Brutus’s funeral speech
Antony's funeral speech
Brutus and Antony’s funeral speech annotation and comparison
Antony's speech over Brutus (end of Act V)
After reading the section with each speech, I hand out this sheet, and students use annotation symbols to go through and mark the text. Then, they explain a little more thoroughly why they put some of the symbols down. Finally, they "translate" the text into modern English.
I have seen great success with this worksheet my sophomores, especially those who I wondered if they were getting anything out of our reading.
