Julius, The Baby of the World Context Clues Vocabulary Activity
This is a vocabulary context clues activity I use with the book Julius, The Baby of the World by Kevin Henkes.
Six vocabulary words are pulled from the text in their sentence of context. Students read the sentence and determine if the word is a noun, verb, adjective, or adverb. Then they make a guess as to what they think the word means based on the context clues in the sentence. They have to state why they think the word means that (what in the sentence helped them determine the meaning).
This activity goes with the Common Core Grade 3 Language Standard for Vocabulary Acquisition: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.3.4a
Use sentence-level context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.
*These are the same vocabulary words that are used for this book in the Making Meaning program.
Included are the worksheets for the students to fill in and the answer key.
I also have other vocabulary context clues activities just like this one on TPT. Each activity follows the same format they just each use a different book. I also have them as a bundle.
