Getting students to remember whether to add or subtract on story problems takes time. Then, once they get it, they forget it soon after the unit is finished. Take 2 minutes out of each day to practice one April/Easter/spring themed addition/subtraction story problem to keep it in the front of your student's mind. You can also put these around the room and have students (alone or with a partner) move card to card in 1 minute/30 second rotations to play a scoot game. All story problems are addition or subtraction. This month they are one and two step problems. They are of double and triple digit numbers, some with regrouping and some without. Some answers result in a 3 or 4 digit number. There are some repetitive addition problems that could be solved with simple multiplication.
Included: 19 July/Independence Day/summer themed story problems, 1 cover (to keep task cards together on a key ring if using whole class), 1 scoot record sheet (if using as an around the room game).
