This program is a prescribed 8-week program that will teach parents of late talkers some indirect and direct language therapy techniques that they can do at home to help their late talkers. This program is not meant to replace a speech therapist, but rather to supplement existing therapy or to help you gather information for your evaluation while you wait to get in to see a speech therapist. This program is also great for speech-language pathologists who work with late talkers. It lays out a specific course of treatment and all pages can be sent home as homework. Here’s a bit more information specific to your situation:
For Parents of Late Talkers:
The hardest thing about helping a late talker is knowing what to do when. With so much information out there, it can be extremely overwhelming to sort through and decide on a course of action. Of course you should get specific recommendations from a speech-language pathologist, but what if you can’t get in to see a speech therapist right away? Or what if you are paying out of pocket for services and you want to work at home to make faster progress so you can graduate with some money left in the bank? Now, for less than the price of one therapy session (most places), you can have an entire 8-week program laid out for you that will tell you exactly what strategies and activities to try and when to use them. This program will teach you how to do therapy at home and how to gather data about how those techniques worked so you can take that information to your speech therapist. That information will help your therapist know exactly where to start in therapy with your child, saving you time and money!
For Speech-Language Pathologists:
This program is designed for home use by parents, which makes it a great homework tool for you as a speech therapist! When a child comes to you as a late talker, you can send home these pre-made activities and techniques that will tell your family exactly how to work with their child at home. This will help your students make faster progress and will give you great information about what strategies or techniques will work the best. You can also follow this program exactly for your speech therapy sessions and use the included lesson plans for teaching vocabulary words. The therapy techniques taught in this program include: self-talk, parallel talk, using sign language, and using expansions. The program also includes lesson plans for over 50 common first words that will guide you through focused stimulation (modeling the word) as well as milieu teaching to tempt and prompt your student to use the word independently.
