Ocean Animals Venn Diagram: After reading many books about the different kinds of ocean animals students pick two ocean animals to compare. With younger students we did this as a group together, older students could handle this on their own as long as they are familiar with how to use a Venn diagram.

letters of the word OCEAN to complete the poem. You may display these poems in the classroom or hallway or make it into a classroom book.

Whales Acrostic Poem: Make a copy for each student and have them write things they know about whales using the first letters in the word whale. Note: For my students who were younger we did this activity with our 4th-grade buddies.

Whales Venn Diagram: After reading “Amazing Facts About Whales” and many other books about the different kinds of whales students picked two whales to compare. Ocean Real & Nonsense Words: Children place cards face down and take turns drawing a card. The student reads words and decides whether it is a real word or nonsense words. Child checks with a partner or group to make sure he/she is accurate. The child writes or places words on t-chart on a whiteboard or use sheet provided in this resource (each student may have a sheet or you could use one sheet for the whole game). The next person takes a turn. Play until all cards have been used.

Ocean Word Game: Students insert vowels ocean animals (a, e, i, o & u) onto the line on the word cards and make words. Students can write words on whiteboards or paper. They may also use the Make A Word worksheets included in this resource.
