This June literacy unit contains everything you need to teach an effective and engaging whole group literacy block for kindergarten or first grade! While this is the June unit, it would also work well in May or for summer school. This unit follows the close reading model and includes phonemic awareness, reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, phonics, and crafts or extensions! Everything is provided for you - all you need to provide is the books!
Each week, you will focus on one of the texts. Each day you will read it in different ways, focusing on a different comprehension strategy. Students will also response through writing (instructions on how to scaffold this for K/1 are included).
The phonemic awareness, writing, and phonics activities are all differentiated for K/1 so you can easily use this to meet the needs of ALL your students! This month is for review, so each week will focus on reviewing short and long vowel sounds as well as r-controlled vowels.
