A book companion to the classic fairy tale "The Three Billy Goats Gruff"
* An 11-page simplified story naturally incorporating the following language targets:
-Third person singular tense
-Conjunctions (but, and)
-Contractions (I'm, he's, don't)
-Sequence (first, second, third)
-Adjectives (mean, ugly)
-Future tense (going to)
-Vocabulary (bridge, troll, gobble, goat, horns)
-Consonant clusters (trip trap, troll, crosses, bridge, grass)
My students have been picking up quickly on the repetitive language of this simple story. After listening to it a few times they begin to finish the sentences themselves, practicing grammar, sentence structure, articulation, and building narrative skills!
It's also great for early readers!
As an added bonus you'll find:
* 8 follow-up questions for discussion (e.g., Why do the billy goats want to cross the bridge? Why do you think the troll is so grumpy? How do you think the billy goats feel after they cross the bridge?)
* 6 receptive identification tasks targeting size concepts and prepositions (e.g., Which goat has the biggest horns? Find the goat behind the grass)
* 4 expressive language tasks in which students answer the question "Where is the troll?" (e.g., The troll is under the bridge)
I like to print these 2 to a page (landscape) to send home with my students. They love coloring in the pictures and retelling the story with their families. Parents enjoy having the questions at the end for further discussion.
The Story Companion is designed to be used with the Three Billy Goats Gruff book which is not included. To check out my favorite version of this story as well as other ideas you can visit me at:
(This companion has been designed in black and white only to keep the price low, however a colored version may be added in the future. If this is something you would find useful let me know!)
Stay fired up!
