Phoneme segmentation and being able to write down the sounds heard in a word are crucial skills for early elementary students to learn, as it aids in better reading and writing in the future! I use these Label and Color activities in my kindergarten classroom every two weeks to give my students the opportunity to work on these skills.
This product is differentiated to three different levels: labeling the beginning sounds of the words, tracing the words to label the objects in the picture, and blank lines to write in the words to label the objects. You can use this from preschool through second or third grade, depending on the levels of your students!
My aim for this activity with my students is not for them to spell each word perfectly, but to help them work on getting the sounds they hear down on paper, Sometimes, they EXCEL and can correctly spell the words. Most of the time, they work hard and do their best, and I love seeing their effort and hard work to use the strategies they've learned.
After the students have worked hard to label all the objects in the picture, they get to color it too! I use this as a center activity, and they have to come show me the completed page before I give them the liberty to color.
This freebie is to give you a taste for what these products are like, as I will be rolling out more of them into my store very soon! I hope you enjoy using this in your classroom!
I would LOVE and appreciate your feedback, to make my store, The Gypsy Teacher, even better! Thank you so much!
