As teachers, we all try to foster a love of reading whenever we can. There are books that spread like wildfire in our classrooms…one child finds it in your classroom library, and suddenly EVERYONE has to read it. This series has caught on like that for us this year! The books in the Junie B. series by Barbara Park are popular choices during Readers Workshop as well as during independent reading time. In order to enforce the close reading strategies taught during our Readers Workshop mini-lessons, I cut up my Junie B. task cards, tape or glue them to black-and-white composition notebooks (what my students use as reading journals in my classroom), and I send them on their merry ways. It is a win-win. My students love what they are reading, and I know that they are developing their vocabularies, their close-reading, skills, and the other reading strategies I have taught in the classroom, and they are loving what they are reading. Oh, and we’re hitting the standards at the same time…a win-win-win.
You will receive 36 task cards (four per chapter).
