Students will collaborate in groups to write two original poems, find rhyme scheme to poems, and locate literary devices in comics.
This is a favorite activity in my class because students work with their group for an entire class period! You will use this lesson year after year during your poetry or Shakespeare unit!
Students will rotate to four stations, and they will stay in the stations for ten minutes each. Topics discussed in each station: rhyme scheme, figurative language, haikus, and a five sense poem.
You will receive worksheets, instruction cards, topics for poetry writing stations, lesson plans, and an exit card for an assessment.
You will have to do a little planning for this lesson. Some materials need to be cut out and placed in envelopes, and you will have to group your students and your desks before classes arrive. You will also be very involved in this lesson because you have to monitor your students frequently! However, it is well worth it!
The activity is common core aligned! The lesson plan is included!
I hope you and your students enjoy!
