My students have always loved this lesson!
Included, are questions to analyze the lyrics to "Just A Dream" by Carrie Underwood.
-I print out the lyrics to the song and cut out each "stanza".
-I have each student read the stanza to themselves and answer the questions for that stanza by themselves.
-We discuss their answers and everyone gets so excited to share. Everyone comes up with the setting as funeral or wedding pretty fast but they don't know what it is for sure.
-I give them the next "stanza", they read, answer the questions, we discuss and they are slowly forming their "poem". We go through the entire song this way.
-Afterwards I show them the official Carrie Underwood music video.
Great lesson for 5th grade social studies (memorial day, veterans day, etc) and for ELA if used as a poem.
