Make learning about punctuation (quotation marks and the commas, periods, and exclamation points that come with them) and capitalization hands-on fun with this activity pack!
Print out these eight task cards and a copy of the recording sheet for each of your students. Then, add the pasta! Get a box of elbow macaroni and another box of thin spaghetti. (You won’t use the whole box, so plan on pasta for dinner!)
Use the elbow macaroni for quotation marks, commas, periods (put two together—it makes a great circle), and the bottom part of an exclamation point. Break up the thin spaghetti into little bits. Use the bits of spaghetti for three horizontal parallel lines for a capitalization symbol and for part of an exclamation point as needed.
Students can perfect their punctuation and capitalization skills with these activity cards as practice or assessment.
I hope your class enjoys this activity as much as mine does!
