Just Plain Fancy by Patricia Polacco is a delightful story about a young Amish girl who learns that being fancy is fine as long as you're a peacock! Naomi earns her organdy cap by raising a peacock after finding the unusual egg along the side of the road.
This resource is very comprehensive and includes activities for a Reader's Notebook as well as Literacy Center activities. Written on half sheets, the reader's notebook includes comprehension questions, cause and effect, notice the pictures, rhyme time, synonym match up, fluency practice, story elements, homonym activity, and compound words. Writing activities include writing for point of view and persuasive writing, and writing captions for pictures in the story. Use all or choose the ones you feel are important.
The Literacy Center Activities include vocabulary cards, abc order, writing sentences, parts of speech practice, syllable practice, and a story map for cause and effect. Also included is a puzzle to cut apart and put back together again by sequencing the events of the story.
