Description

This fantastic activity for the Byzantine Empire features a structured primary source for analyzing excerpts from Justinian's Code of Laws.

The worksheet includes an introduction and several easy-to-read passages from Justinian's Code. There are 9 questions that have students analyzing the ancient code of laws and comparing them to their own concepts of law and "natural rights".

This is a great activity for students to work on individually, in pairs, or in small cooperative learning groups. It can also lead to a great class discussion on how laws have changed over time.

An editable Google Doc version and complete answer key are both included for your convenience.

For an excellent companion activity on Justinian and the Byzantine Empire, see this Byzantine Emperor Justinian Campaign Poster project.

Both of these resources can also be downloaded as part of my Byzantine Empire Unit Bundle!
