I spent countless hours looking for a book log that fit for students of all abilities in my kindergarten and first grade classrooms. Many book logs require students to read for 20 minutes a night which just isn't something that is developmentally appropriate for an emergent reader and many didn't have parent communication or writing practice. I have fixed this problem!
*3 cover choices
This book log has an area for parents/ guardians to write a book the parent read to the child and a book the student read to the parent. (We can't forget how important it is for students to hear stories and that communication that emerges when families read together.)
This log also encourages students to write once a week. Children are encouraged to write about anything, this helps children with the full writing experience including the brainstorming.
Lastly the three star system. Parents shade in the amount of stars that they felt the child earned for each book. 1 needs lots of practice 2 some help 3 too easy. This is a fast communication that can be shared between parent and teacher.
This book Log is designed to include weeks from August 2017 to July 2018.
