I created this sight word book to use in my second grade classroom as a supplement of our district’s phonics/spelling program called Pathways to Reading. It features short vowels, digraphs, long vowels, buddy vowels, -r vowels, multisyllable words, and non-phonetic words from the Fry word list and the previously mentioned phonics program.
Print out the book pages. Cut the pages into fourths to put together the books for each student and bind or staple together.
How this works:
Students work through one box at a time. When a student is able to read through the box of words fluently, they may choose a sticker to put over the smiley face. If a student has to take time to sound out a word or spends a longer amount of time on a word, I highlight it. If a student is not able to read the box of words fluently, they are not able to put a sticker on that page and will try that box again the next day.
This sight word book allows for daily word practice with your students. A para, aide, or other adult helper could easily implement this with your students. It takes about 20-30 minutes to read through one box with each of your students each day.
Also includes a blank page for you to include words from your own classroom word study.
