Word problems are always such a struggle for my kiddos, especially my KDG babies. I created these “problem of the day” journals to help my students become more independent in this very important and somewhat overwhelming skill, at a level that they can reach. We start this right away and it was a huge success for my kiddos. There are so many different ways for the students to break down the problem that they are sure to become confident and independent throughout the year with continued daily practice. Each month we will be adding a new pack to go along with activities/themes found in that month.
*This pack is apart of a growing bundle that is offered at a HUGE discount. Please make sure to look at the bundle if you are interested in doing these pages throughout the whole school year.
*problem of the day cover that can be used in a binder or copied on cardstock to create a monthly book that the students can work through.
*20 different “problem of the day” problems that are related to the month of May. Topics include: End of the school year fun, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, sports, classroom fun, and much more!
*2 different versions are included in these packs to help teachers choose what will work best in their classroom. One set includes a section that can be cut and glued onto the “draw a picture” section. I use these for my kiddos because they need help with fine motor skills and independence is key! Each page has 10 objects that can be used. Although not all 10 objects need to be used this month, it is another way for kiddos to practice correct number correspondence.
*Each ‘problem of the day’ page has many different ways to break down the word problem including: “draw it out”, “ten frames & equations”, “Number bonds”, “Number line” & “today, I…” (circle or write add or subtract). These started out as whole group practice, but at the end of the 1st quarter, we begin doing this during math centers and small group review. This could be a fun homework addition as well!
*Please follow me on TPT to find many different activities that can be used in your great classrooms :)
*all graphics, fonts, and borders are credited on the last page of the pack.
