The Roman Republic ended because of the actions of Julius & Augustus Caesar. Although they both tried to save Rome from the corrupt autocracy, they set it up as an empire that was doomed to fail.
In this lesson students compare the laws of the Roman Constitution (Twelve Tables) to what Julius and Augustus actually did. This lesson helps students discover how every action of both Julius and Augustus caused the end of the republic and the beginning of an empire.
