Included in this resource:
-Simple to use and aligned practice for decomposing numbers
6, 7, 8, 9. 10. (K.OA.3: Decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way, e.g., by using objects drawings, and record each decomposition by a drawing or equation).
-Three differentiated pages for each number, depending on the
ability level of your students or the way you teach the standard, different representations of recording with missing
addends, and sum at the beginning and at the end, and both, e.g.,
( __+__= 6 6 =__=__ ) Students cut counters first to
use on the work mats for concrete practice. (Do not glue!)
-For extra practice provide each student with a small envelope or baggie to store the little counters for making the given number in different ways on the work mat OR when done
have students choose one decomposition they made, circle the number sentence, and glue the objects to illustrate the decomposition as evidence.
-Great for whole group instruction, small groups, or interventions! Early finishers could continue with the counters and record more ways to make the number on the “Make more on the back page” page included in the resource!
